Tax-free shopping allows non-EU residents to reclaim the VAT (Value Added Tax) on eligible goods purchased within the EU, provided these items are taken back to their home country within 30 days of purchase.

However, obtaining a tax refund can often be tedious and lengthy. Woonivers addresses these challenges by offering a fully digital solution that is compliant with regulations. This means the entire process can be handled via your smartphone, eliminating the need for cumbersome paperwork and long waits at stores or airports.

To use the app, simply install it and sign in. When making a purchase at participating stores, obtain your regular sales receipt and promptly scan it with the app. Woonivers will coordinate with the store to issue a tax refund request stored in your app as a QR code.

On the day of your departure from the EU, locate a VAT validation machine—known as “DIVA machines” in Spain—at your port or airport. Present the QR code from the Woonivers app to the reader. Be prepared to show unused purchased goods at the customs office if requested, as proof that you are exporting them.

Once the tax authority validates your refund request, the funds will become available in the app for withdrawal via PayPal or bank transfer.

To ensure compliance with Spanish tax-free regulations, you must prove non-EU residency with a passport or another form of documentation. Additionally, purchased goods must be unused and taken out of the EU within three months of purchase; some items may not qualify for refunds.
